Running a small business is no easy task. You work long hours, often as a jack of all trades and have to be extremely patient with watching your business grow. With that being said, some people are not into shopping small because they identify closely with bigger businesses or simply do not understand the perks of supporting small businesses.
Check out our top four reasons for small biz spending:
#1 Put Your Money Where Your House Is
When you support small businesses, you support and sustain the local economy. Small business owners are more likely to give back to the community with local scholarships, free events and sponsorship.
#2 Small Businesses Will Hire You When They Grow
63% of new jobs that were created from 1999 to 2013, were created from small businesses. What an astounding number! Supporting businesses in your 'hood can create local jobs and opportunity. I always tell people to support the businesses that they wish they could work for -- one day you might really be able to get a gig there.
#3 They Have Their Ears to the Streets
Big businesses hire buyers who crunch numbers and build reports on what inventory they should have. These reports and statistics are not always correct, which leads to a poor customer experience (the store doesn't carry what you really want). Small business owners are able to hear and understand what their customers want directly! Small biz owners can also contact their vendors directly for orders and special requests.
#4 Inventory With Character
Since most small businesses don't have to appeal to the masses, they have the ability to curate special pieces that most major retailers won't carry. Think of a local boutique that carrries your favorite shoes or handbags that you cannot find in major stores.
